This street is now pedestrianised, and is a lower-key alternative to Broad Street as one of Birmingham's entertainment streets, lined as it is with pubs and venues.

Several key music venues operated along or around John Bright Street, among them Mr Bill's Bierkeller, and the legendary Edward's Number 8 - one of a chain of clubs owned by impresario Eddie Fewtrell. Edwards Number 8 which burned down in 2006.

From here, carry on to the end of John Bright Street, passing the Futurist Cinema and the Alexandra Theatre, both on your left. Turn left past the Alex on Station Street, to reach Hill Street again. Turn right, and at the bottom of Hill Street, cross Smallbrook Quensway to reach Hurst Street, and 50 yards further on, the entrance to the Powerhouse (6).
